On Thursday, Oct. 20, District 214 educators showed how they prepare students to be College, Career and Life Ready using #214ready on Twitter. 

Some examples:

  • Computer programming students at Buffalo Grove High School are coding in Swift for iOS. They're also trouble shooting and developing solutions using industry-level development tools.
  • Spanish language students at Prospect High School use EdPuzzle to transform learning
  • Elk Grove physics students use real-world scenarios, such as football games and field goals, to calculate distance

Program Spotlight: Hersey Media Tech

On top of classwork, live sports broadcasting and putting together morning announcements, Hersey’s media tech students in just one year participated in 74 industry experiences, gaining press credentials to cover the Taste of Chicago, the Chicago Flower & Garden Show, Great America’s Fright Night and Lake Shake, a three-day country music festival, among others.

Ensuring Success from the First Days of School

All District 214 schools are committed to preparing students for successful start to the school year. To get an idea of what those first days looked like, click here.

To help students transition and connect with their school community, several schools implemented unique programs with modified schedules. Elk Grove and Prospect High Schools created special programs for their Freshman classes, while Wheeling created a modified start for all classes.

Elk Grove High School alumna Cassidy Hamilton knew what she wanted to be when she was 10 years old – a zookeeper.

Now 19, Cassidy is double majoring in Wildlife Ecology & Management as well as double minoring in Biology and Captive Wildlife Management at The University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. She also recently completed a prestigious internship at the Brookfield Zoo.
