He also has led facility redevelopment projects to create innovative work spaces for students, including a mock courtroom and coding development lab in his school; improved the knowledge and professional practice of his staff; and engaged hundreds of individual industry and community partners through the successful development of this work.

“Every decision I have made as a teacher or administrator has [a] lofty goal: Have students lift themselves out of poverty and provide a better life for themselves and their family,” Burritt said  of his education philosophy. “During my time at Elk Grove High School, I have made this my professional responsibility, and my decisions as a teacher and leader have been shaped by this belief that education can provide a great future for our students.”

“I am extremely blessed that I work in an incredible District that celebrates teaching and all aspects of education,” he added.  “In Township High School District 214, I am not only allowed to dream big on behalf of students, it is expected of me. I have tried to empower that same mentality into the teachers I work with to be the champions of students I know they can be.”

Burritt, who holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from National Louis University and a bachelor’s degree in business education from Eastern Illinois University, joined Elk Grove High School in 2003 as a teacher before becoming division head for Career and Technical Education and English Language Learners. He began his teaching career at St. Charles North High School.
